Samuel Koltas – Kenston High School – March 2023

Last year I was chosen to participate in the OHMIO test, meaning I was within the top 150 scores in Ohio on the OCTM math test. I have been a part of the President’s education award program every year of high school, acknowledging my GPA as well as my consistent service hours every year. I have been a WRC Scholar Athlete every year in high school, receiving a varsity letter as well as maintaining a 4.0 since freshman year. I received the AP Scholar award and am a National Merit Commended Scholar. I have received the scholar athlete award in baseball and golf and am on my way to receive it in track and field this upcoming spring. I am currently 13th in the senior class and have been on high honor roll every semester in high school.

Club Membership & Sports:

I have always found a way to keep myself busy outside of the classroom through the multiple clubs and sports offered in high school. I have participated in baseball and track for all 4 years of high school, golf for 3 years, and soccer freshman year. I have received a varsity letter in all sports except for soccer. I am an active member in Math club, participated in the Academic Challenge TV series with Kenston Trivia club, and am a team captain for the Science Olympiad team this year. With this schedule I have found a way to further enhance my high school experience outside of the classroom.

School Activities:

I am very dedicated to all of my sports, becoming a leader through my work ethic and dedication to each sport. I am also a member of NHS and a class officer, serving as Treasurer for all 4 years of high school.

Activities Outside of School:

I have participated in Boy Scouts since 1st grade and on the way up I was Senior Patrol Leader for 2 years and am currently an Eagle Scout with a bronze palm. Through scouts, I have dedicated countless service hours through preservation in the Rocky mountains to providing families thanksgiving dinner in the Cleveland area. I received a certificate after being a participant in National Youth Leadership Training through Boy Scouts. I have also worked every year for the Bainbridge Civic Club Pancake Breakfast since 6th grade and am currently employed at Vail Resorts as a Rental Associate.

College Plans:

I am undecided in which college I will attend, but I plan to participate in a four-year college with a major in statistics with a focus on actuarial science.
